Spotted Redshank

Description:

Similar to Common Redshank but longer-legged; longer, finer bill slightly drooped at tip. Red at base of bill, and red legs. Non-breeding plumage is paler grey above and whiter below than Common with more prominent white supercilium. Underparts black in breeding plumage. Juvenile similar to non-breeding adult.


Distribution:

Uncommon passage migrant through the wester districts of Ghizer and Diamer. Usually found in wide variety of wetlands; including marshes, lakes, river banks, boggy areas and grasslands. From lowlands up to 3000m during passage migration.


Behavior:

Pecks, probes, jabs or sweeps bill through water from side to side. Occasionally swims while feeding in deep water; may immerse head and neck completely. Chiefly feeds on aquatic insects and their larvae, terrestrial flying insects, small crustaceans, molluscs, polychaete worms, fish and amphibians.
